About Headland Lodge

Our 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom eco-lodge provides the independent traveller with a 'home away from home', for those wishing for a fully contained, self-catered getaway. Perched above the secluded Kangaroo Beach Cove on the western side of Kangaroo Island, you'll enjoy uninterrupted coastal views, wildlife at play and a pristine private beach.

Headland lodge was designed by award-winning architects Troppo, whose focus on sustainability has enabled us to make the most of the unique location of the lodge to provide cooling/heating. In the warmer months, the large breezeway and the carefully placed windows can be opened to draw cool breezes through the house and there are ceiling fans in each room. In winter, the wood stove can be fired up (no pun intended) and the heat produced is plumbed to the radiators in the bedrooms and towel rails in the bathrooms.

Getting around

The roads on the property surrounding Headland on Kangaroo Beach are negotiable with a 2WD vehicle, however we do recommend bringing a 4WD where possible (winter months in particular). We also suggest guests bring with them good walking shoes if they wish to walk down to the beach. It's not far, but the small hill can be tricky to negotiate. Alternatively, there is a 4WD track to the beach (note: accessible by 4WD vehicles only).

In the best interest of guest safety, we do not recommend driving across the island after 4pm during the winter months (June-August) due to the abundant wildlife on the roads from dusk onward. If you are arriving on the island after 4pm, we would recommend organising accommodation close to your point of arrival for your first night, then travelling across the island the following day.
